Warrenville, the town the Albright painters worked out of

Julius Warren claimed land on the West Branch of the DuPage River in 1833, put up an inn, a gristmill and the first stagecoach line, and got the town named after himself. In 1924 the painter Adam Emory Albright bought a disused 1858 Methodist church here and turned it into a studio and gallery for his family. His twin sons worked in it: Malvin as a sculptor, and Ivan, who painted the decaying portrait MGM commissioned for the 1945 film of The Picture of Dorian Gray. The historical society reopened the studio as the town museum.
