W.C. Handy born in a log cabin in Florence
1873
West College Street, Florence, Alabama

The son and grandson of ministers who thought instruments were of the devil, Handy bought a guitar in secret and was made to return it. He later wrote down what he heard a man playing with a knife blade on a guitar at a Mississippi railway station, and the published result, Memphis Blues, then St. Louis Blues, put the twelve-bar blues into print and into the commercial repertoire. His cabin was moved here and kept.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
