J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith founded American Vitagraph in 1897 in direct competition with Edison, and by 1907 it was the most prolific film production company in the United States. In 1906 it moved out here, hauling costumes and equipment from the Manhattan stages by subway to the Avenue M station beside the lot. Warner Bros. Bought the company in 1925. The studio's smokestack is still standing.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
