Centaur Film Company, America's first independent studio
1907
Bayonne, New Jersey
David Horsley ran a bicycle shop and a pool hall in Bayonne before he and his brother William started making pictures here in 1907. Centaur was the first independent motion picture company in the United States. Its western unit, Nestor, opened the first permanent film studio in Hollywood in October 1911, and Universal absorbed the whole company the year after that.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
