Madam C.J. Walker, born Sarah Breedlove to Louisiana sharecroppers, built a hair care company that made her the wealthiest self made Black woman in America, then hired Vertner Tandy to build her a 34 room Italianate mansion on the Hudson. It was finished in 1918 and named for her daughter Lelia Walker Robinson. She placed it facing Broadway so that everyone travelling between Albany and New York would have to look at it. She died there the following year.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
