Valley Village wins its own name after decades of being North Hollywood
1991

Residents here had been calling their streets Valley Village since the late 1930s, but every map and every address said North Hollywood. Roughly three hundred homeowners met at Colfax Avenue Elementary School in December 1985 to press for a separate name, and Los Angeles finally put up seven blue boundary markers in 1991. One of the organisers said the split had nothing to do with ethnic demographics and everything to do with one economic level wanting its own identity.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
