Top O' Hill Terrace runs an illegal casino behind a tea room
1956
Arlington, Texas
This hilltop opened in the early 1920s as a tea room, then Fred Browning turned it into a speakeasy and gambling house that took the money of racegoers from the Arlington Downs track. Texas Rangers raided it repeatedly and it closed in the early 1950s. A Bible seminary bought the property in 1956 and built the campus that is now Arlington Baptist University. The sandstone guardhouse, the iron gate and the tea garden are still standing on the grounds.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
