The Staten Island boat graveyard
1930
Rossville, Staten Island
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A marine scrapyard on the Arthur Kill that has been taking condemned vessels since the 1930s, buying up surplus hulls after the Second World War faster than it could cut them apart. Tugs, ferries and barges were left to settle into the mud instead, as many as four hundred at the peak. Two or three dozen are still visible at low tide.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
