The Spindle, eight cars on a fifty foot spike
Berwyn, Illinois
![]()
Dustin Shuler drove a fifty foot steel spike through eight cars and stood it up in a shopping plaza parking lot in 1989, the way a receipt goes onto a desk spindle. Wayne's World put it on screen in 1992 and it became one of the most photographed objects on Illinois roadsides. It came down in 2008 despite a local campaign to keep it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
