The Silver Bridge collapse
December 15, 1967

A single eyebar link failed in rush-hour traffic and the whole span went into the Ohio in under a minute, killing 46. It forced the first national bridge inspection standards. Local sightings of a winged figure in the year before became the Mothman legend, which the town now has a festival and a statue for.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
