The Seward Street slides
1973
Seward Street, San Francisco
A vacant lot on a steep street was going to be developed. The neighbours fought it and won a park instead, and a fourteen-year-old named Kim Clark won the design competition. Her drawing was two long concrete chutes down the slope. They are still there, still fast, and still ridden on flattened cardboard supplied by whoever came before you.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
