The Senior Road Tower collapses in seventeen seconds
1982
Fort Bend County, Texas
On 7 December 1982 crews were hoisting the broadcast antenna up the nearly finished mast when a u-bolt failed. The falling antenna cut two guy wires and the whole structure came down in under seventeen seconds, killing five riggers from a New Jersey tower company. The replacement went up in 1983 and stands 1,971 feet, tall enough to rank among the tallest structures in the country, carrying Houston FM stations from the Fort Bend prairie.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
