The river that runs north
1826
Georgetown, Minnesota
The Red flows north to Hudson Bay, so its headwaters thaw weeks before its mouth. Meltwater arrives at ice still locked solid downstream and spreads sideways across a valley with almost no gradient, a rise of a few feet can put water miles out. The flood of 1826 was the largest recorded, and the pattern has repeated ever since.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
