Ringling spent circus money on Old Masters at a time when the market was flat, buying five Rubens cartoons and a great deal else, and built a museum for them next to his house. He left the whole thing to Florida. Litigation kept it closed for years, but it became the state art museum, and the circus collection beside it is the best there is.
