The Pulgas Water Temple, where the water from Hetch Hetchy came out
1934
Redwood City, California
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
San Francisco spent two decades damming a valley in Yosemite National Park and running an aqueduct 160 miles to the peninsula, and when the water arrived in 1934 the city marked the outlet with a ring of fluted columns designed by William G. Merchant. The flow used to run through a vault directly under the temple. Treatment rules now send it to a plant nearby, so the structure stands over a channel it no longer carries.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
