The Precious Moments chapel
1989
Carthage, Missouri
Sam Butcher, who drew the teardrop-eyed children on a line of figurines that sold in the tens of millions, spent years painting a chapel in Carthage with eighty-four murals in the same style, a Sistine ceiling done entirely in greeting-card children. He worked on scaffolding on his back, and said the loss of his son was the reason for it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
