The Preakness Stakes is named after a corner of New Jersey
1870
Valley Road at Preakness Avenue, Wayne, New Jersey
Milton H. Sanford, a businessman from Medway in Massachusetts, ran a thoroughbred breeding operation here at what is now the corner of Valley Road and Preakness Avenue. He named one of his colts Preakness after the section of Wayne the farm stood in, and that colt won the first running of the Dinner Party Stakes at Pimlico. Maryland later named a new race for the horse. The middle leg of the Triple Crown carries the name of a New Jersey neighbourhood, by way of a horse.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
