The Powder Alarm empties the magazine above Powder House Square
1774
Somerville, Massachusetts

British soldiers carried 250 half barrels of colonial gunpowder out of the stone magazine above this rotary on 1 September 1774. Thousands of militia turned out across New England on the rumour that fighting had begun, months before Lexington. The powder house still stands in Nathan Tufts Park at the edge of the six-way intersection named after it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
