The Port Kennedy Bone Cave and the fossils buried twice
1870
Upper Merion Township, Pennsylvania
Quarrymen cutting limestone near Port Kennedy broke into a fissure in 1870 and found one of the richest middle Pleistocene fossil beds in North America, roughly 750,000 years old. Edward Drinker Cope, Charles Wheatley and Henry Mercer took more than 1,200 specimens out of it, among them ground sloths, giant tapirs and sabre tooth cats. The opening was later filled with asbestos bearing industrial waste and its location was lost entirely until researchers found it again in the 2000s. Most of the fossils are held at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
