The building opened as the Englewood Plaza movie theatre on November 22, 1926. John Harms, an organist who had been putting on concerts in Bergen County since 1941, turned it into a concert hall in 1976 and booked it himself down to the artist contracts. It closed in April 2003 and reopened barely two weeks later under a public and private partnership as the Bergen Performing Arts Center. The main house seats 1,367 and runs around two hundred shows a year.
