The Paxton Boys kill the last Conestogas
1763
Penn Square, Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Frontiersmen from Paxton rode into a peaceful Conestoga village and killed six people, then broke into the Lancaster workhouse where the surviving fourteen had been put for protection and killed them too, in daylight, in the middle of town. Nobody was ever charged. Franklin wrote a furious pamphlet and rode out to turn the mob back from Philadelphia, and the massacre is a founding case of frontier violence going unpunished.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
