A frontier hotel from 1880 whose guest book runs Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane, Teddy Roosevelt and, by strong local tradition, the young Butch Cassidy. Owen Wister set the climax of The Virginian, the novel that invented the Western, in its saloon. Restored from dereliction in the 1990s, it still rents rooms, and the ceiling of the bar still holds its 23 bullet holes.
