The Mississippi starts at Itasca
1832
Clearwater County, Minnesota

Henry Schoolcraft was guided here by Ozawindib, an Anishinaabe leader who knew exactly where the source was, and then coined the name Itasca from the middle of two Latin words for true head. Visitors wade across the outlet on stones. The water takes about ninety days to reach the Gulf.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
