The Lincoln-Douglas debate at Knox College
1858
Old Main, Galesburg, Illinois
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The largest crowd of the seven debates, around twenty thousand people in a cold October wind, with the platform built against the east wall of Old Main. Lincoln climbed through a window to reach it and said he had at last gone through college. This is the one where he pressed hardest on whether slavery was a moral wrong, and Old Main is the only debate building still standing.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
