1975
Tacoma, Washington

Refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos began arriving in Washington in 1975, and a share of them settled in south Tacoma around 38th and Yakima. The blocks by Lincoln High School now hold most of the city's Vietnamese restaurants, groceries and community organisations, several hundred businesses in all. Tet, the Vietnamese new year, is the district's biggest event of the year.
