Police forced the door of a twenty-six-year-old emergency-room technician's apartment near midnight on a warrant for someone who did not live there and was already in custody. Her boyfriend, taking them for intruders, fired once. They fired thirty-two rounds back and killed her in the hallway. Her name became half of the summer's protests. The city banned the no-knock warrant that killed her and paid her family a record settlement.
