The Joshua P. Young House, a Chicago cottage that outlived the ban
1852
Blue Island, Illinois
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Joshua P. Young laid out much of Blue Island and a number of South Side Chicago neighbourhoods, brought the Rock Island Railroad through the town and led its board of trustees. His house on High Street went up in 1852 in the Chicago cottage form, a cheap balloon frame that Chicago banned after so much of it burned in 1871. Surviving examples are uncommon, which is most of the reason this one is on the National Register.
