The Johnson County War
1892
TA Ranch, Buffalo, Wyoming
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Wyoming's cattle barons hired an army of Texas gunmen in 1892, wrote out a death list of alleged rustlers, and invaded Johnson County. Small ranchers besieged the invaders at the TA Ranch for three days until the cavalry, summoned by the barons' friends in Washington, rescued them from the consequences. Nobody of consequence was punished. The range war became the template for half of Western fiction, Shane included. The TA Ranch still stands, bullet holes kept.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
