Theodore Roosevelt in the Badlands
1884
Billings County, North Dakota
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
Roosevelt came out to ranch after his wife and mother died on the same day, and later said he would never have been president without his years in North Dakota. The winter of 1886-87 killed most of his cattle and most of the open-range industry with them.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
