Paul and Jerome Fletcher sold the PGA Tour 415 acres of swamp for one dollar, and the cheque still hangs in the clubhouse. Pete Dye drew the 17th as an ordinary par three with a pond off to one side, but the sand under that green turned out to be the best fill on the property and the crews dug away nearly everything around it. Alice Dye suggested finishing the job and ringing the green with water. The course opened in the autumn of 1980 and the hole has not been altered since.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
