On 15 February 2019 a warehouse worker at the Henry Pratt valve plant was called into a meeting to be fired, and he shot and killed five of his co-workers. Five Aurora police officers were wounded in the response and officers killed the gunman inside the building. He had a felony conviction in Mississippi that should have barred him from owning the pistol he used. Illinois had revoked his gun card years earlier and never collected the weapon.
