The Henry Hudson monument, a column that waited years for its statue

The column was raised at Spuyten Duyvil for the celebrations marking three centuries since Hudson sailed up the river, and then stood empty because the money for the figure was gone. The bronze Hudson was finally hoisted onto the top in 1938. The little park sits directly above the creek that divides the Bronx from Manhattan.
