The Hay House and its hidden room
1859
Georgia Avenue, Macon
An Italian Renaissance villa of eighteen thousand square feet, built with indoor plumbing, central heating, a speaking-tube system and a ventilation scheme decades before any of it was ordinary. It also has a windowless room behind a wall that the family said was for silver, and that everyone else in Macon has always preferred to believe held Confederate gold.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
