The Halifax Resolves
1776
Halifax, North Carolina
On April 12, 1776, North Carolina's provincial congress meeting at Halifax became the first colony to authorize its delegates to vote for independence, three months before the Declaration. The date is on the state flag, and the little river town where it happened is preserved as a state historic site, considerably quieter than what it started.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
