The Gein farm
1957
Plainfield, Waushara County, Wisconsin
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The searchers who entered Ed Gein's farmhouse outside Plainfield in November 1957 found what he had made from the bodies of exhumed women and his two victims, and American horror has never gotten over it: Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs all descend from this farm. The house burned in March 1958, days before an auction that would have made it a carnival attraction, and nobody investigated too hard. The land is private. The town does not mark it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
