The Gardner Museum and the heist
March 18, 1990
Boston, Massachusetts
Isabella Stewart Gardner built a Venetian palace around her collection and left it on condition nothing ever be moved. In 1990 two men in police uniform talked their way in and took thirteen works including a Vermeer, the largest art theft in history, still unsolved, and the empty frames still hang where they were.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
