The first air conditioner, built for a print shop
1902

Summer humidity was swelling the paper at the Sackett and Wilhelms lithography plant, so the colours of a four pass print never landed on top of each other. Buffalo Forge sent a young engineer, and on 17 July 1902 Willis Carrier initialled drawings for a machine that ran air over chilled coils to pull the water out of it. Cooling was the side effect, and the reason every office tower and server room in the country is possible. The building is still standing and now holds artists' studios.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
