Cambridge, Massachusetts

Kennedy's steam bakery in Cambridgeport turned out the first fig bar in 1891. The company named its cookies and crackers after towns around Boston, so the fig one came out as the Newton. Kennedy merged into the National Biscuit Company in 1898 and the recipe went with it. The 1875 building holds apartments today.
