The East Boston Immigration Station held immigrants as enemy aliens

Built between 1919 and 1920, this was New England's port of entry until 1954. At the start of the Second World War the government used it to detain Japanese, German and Italian immigrants it judged dangerous, many of whom had lived in the United States for decades and against whom no evidence was produced. Detainees held here were later moved on to other camps. The building was declared surplus in 1959 and is leased today as a shipyard.
