The Corkscrew at Laguna Seca
1957
Salinas, California
A track laid into a dry lakebed in the hills, with a corner drivers approach blind over a crest and then drop fifty-nine feet through in a couple of seconds, the equivalent of a five-storey fall taken sideways. It is the reason people who do not follow motor racing know the name of a racetrack in Monterey County.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
