John D. Rockefeller gave the city this wooded valley in 1896, and from 1916 immigrant groups began planting individual gardens along the parkway through it. There are now 35 of them, each built and maintained by one nationality, strung along East Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr Drive. No other American city has anything on the same scale.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
