Lubbock keeps its son in a former railroad depot: the Fender he played, the glasses recovered from the Iowa field, the whole short arc from the Hi-D-Ho drive-in to the plane. Across the street his statue anchors a walk of fame for every musician the flat land around here somehow keeps producing.
