Buddy Holly at Norman Petty's
1957
Norman Petty Studios, Clovis, New Mexico

Buddy Holly drove ninety miles from Lubbock to a converted grocery on West Seventh in Clovis because Norman Petty charged by the song instead of the hour, and in 1957 the little studio cut That'll Be the Day and Peggy Sue. Petty's echo chamber was the men's room. The sound went around the world. The studio survives with its original equipment and opens by appointment, kept as Petty left it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
