The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse arrives in 200 crates
1998

Boulder and Dushanbe became sister cities in 1987, and the Tajik capital's mayor answered with an entire building. More than forty artisans spent years hand carving and painting the ceiling, the columns and the ceramic panels, then took the whole thing apart and shipped it over in roughly 200 crates. Boulder then argued for years about where to put it and who would pay to raise it. It opened as a working teahouse in 1998, reassembled by hand without power tools.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
