The Battle of Cahuenga Pass unseats a Mexican governor
1831
Los Angeles, California
Wealthy landowners raised a force in 1831 against Manuel Victoria, the Mexican governor of California, and met his troops at Cahuenga Pass. Two men were killed, one on each side, and Victoria was badly wounded. He gave up the governorship and left, which set the pattern for how California changed hands for the next fifteen years.
