The Bakersfield Sound, Buck Owens' honky-tonk answer to Nashville
1963
Bakersfield, California
Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, both from Okie families, made a hard electric country music built on Telecasters and a drummer, a deliberate answer to the strings and choirs coming out of Nashville. Owens ran his own studio, publishing and radio station and played the Crystal Palace until the night he died.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
