The African Cemetery at Higgs Beach
1860
Key West, Florida

The Navy intercepted three slave ships bound for Cuba in 1860 and brought some 1,400 Africans to Key West, where nearly 300 died within weeks of the conditions they had been held in. They were buried on the beach and the graves were lost for over a century until ground-penetrating radar found them in 2002, under what had become a public beach and, for a time, a car park.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
