The Acadians land on the Teche
1765
St. Martinville, Louisiana

The British had deported the Acadians from Nova Scotia ten years earlier for refusing an unconditional oath, breaking up families onto separate ships and scattering them along the Atlantic coast. Groups found their way to Spanish Louisiana, which took them in and gave them land on the bayous. Cajun is what Acadien became in the mouths of their neighbours.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
