Supai, where the mail still goes by mule

Eight miles down a side canyon with no road to it, the capital of the Havasupai is the most remote community in the lower forty eight and the last place in the country where the mail is carried in and out by pack train. The Havasupai were pushed onto a fraction of their land when the park was made and got much of the plateau back in 1975, the largest such return in the country's history. The blue green water below the village comes from limestone springs and rebuilds its own travertine dams, which is also why the floods rearrange the falls every few decades.
