The Benedictines of Newark Abbey had run the school since 1868, but with their old constituency gone from the city the monks shut it for the 1972 school year. Some of them reopened it the next autumn for Newark's own boys, under a headmaster, Edwin Leahy, who has held the post ever since. Students run a large part of the school themselves, including the maintenance company that keeps the buildings up. Its soccer and basketball programmes became national names.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
